The Course options allow you to run and control pre-saved courses built in MAX Studio or MAX Creator. Because course settings are pre-defined when a course is created, the Course menus have fewer options than Practice menus.

Selecting Course in the Toolbar will automatically open the Course Control menu in the side panel which shows important course data and branching options.

The Course Control Panel

The Course Control Panel shows the weapon ID, icon for the weapon type (pistol, rifle, shotgun, taser, and other), shot marker color, and shot data for up to 6 weapons as defined by Weapon Setup and chosen in the bottom panel.

Shot information is updated in real-time as the course progresses.

Pause

A toggle control that allows the admin to temporarily pause and continue the course. Pressing the spacebar should pause/unpause the course. This also pauses the timer.

Start/Stop

This will either start a course if one is not currently running or stop a course if one is in progress. The difference between pause and stop is that stopping a course will completely end a course and show the after-action review screen.

The Course Control Side Panel

Commands for defining the weapons used in a course and stage branching are located in the Weapon Setup menu.

Branch to Stage

Courses are made up of one or more stages. The Branch to Stage option allows the instructor to instantly jump to any branch of a course. Consider this example of a simple course with three stages.

In stage 1, a suspect is seen holding a gun. Depending on the actions of the trainee, the instructor may decide to branch to stage 2 in which the suspect drops the gun, or stage 3 in which the suspect aims the gun at the trainee and fires.

Clicking the Branch to Stage button opens a multi-select button with the number and name of the available stages as defined by the course. Once an option is selected, the course should immediately play the selected stage and proceed as normal. If the instructor selects the stage that is currently running, the course will immediately replay the current stage.

A stage may contain behaviors that change the stage or viewpoint. Therefore it is possible that the admin will select a viewpoint, only to have the course choose and alternate viewpoint or stage moments later.

Viewpoint

Allows the admin to override the viewpoint of the current stage. If the stage contains behaviors that change the viewpoint, these will happen as planned and will override the Viewpoint selection. It is a good idea only to use this option when the viewpoint does not have the possibility to change.

Course Details

Course Details provide static information about the current course including the total number of stages in the course, the minimum passing score (which can be expressed as total points or a percentage of hits), shots allowed, and time allowed. This data is not selectable or editable by the user.
