Configuring a Trace Weapon

Configuring a Trace Weapon

Before a trace weapon can be used, it should be configured so that the system knows what type of weapon it is (pistol, rifle, shotgun, etc.), and it can be assigned the proper weapon ID (always Weapon ID 0).

This tutorial shows how to set up a trace weapon. Instructions for setting up a regular training weapon can be found here.

Step 1. Select Weapon Setup in the Side Panel

When you first select the Weapon Setup side menu, weapon detail information is hidden and an aiming target is projected.

Using the trace weapon you want to configure, fire three or more shots at the red center of the target. Keep firing until you feel that your last three shots were accurately aimed.

When you first aim your trace weapon at the screen, it may fire a few errant shots. This is normal behavior because the laser is always on when a weapon is in trace mode and it will take a few seconds for the program to see that you are using a trace weapon.

Once the program sees that you are using a trace weapon, it will assign it a Weapon ID of 0.

Step 2. Configure the Trace Weapon

Next, you can configure the trace weapon exactly as a normal training weapon.

Weapon Type

This is a multi-select field used to choose the type of weapon this is. Select Pistol or Rifle depending on your trace weapon type.

At this time DART MAX only supports pistol and rifle weapons in Trace mode.

Shot Marker

The Shot Marker button opens a color selector used to set the color of bullet holes created by this weapon. The button and weapon icon will reflect the shot marker color.

Shot Sound

Opens a window for selecting the sound the selected weapon will make when it is fired.

Step 3. Saving the Weapon File

Once the trace weapon has been configured it is ready to save.

You should not use the alignment options when saving a trace weapon.

Click the Save Weapon button to save your configuration. It is recommended that you give the weapon a descriptive name and include the word Trace. For example, Colt AR-15 Trace or Bill’s GLOCK Trace. This will make it easier to distinguish trace weapons from other training weapons when running a practice session.
