Trace After Action Review
The After Action Review allows you to step through each shot of a trace practice session.
Using Trace Mode
Trace weapons are not designed to work with courses. Trace weapons only work in Practice mode.
Make sure that at least one trace weapon has been configured. See Weapon Setup Workflow for more information.
In the Practice control panel, select a trace weapon for one of the Weapon IDs. Selecting a trace weapon will clear out all other weapons and only one trace weapon may be used at a time.
Set the practice options under Practice Setup and add up to six targets using the Library.
Adjust the Distance in the Practice control panel and press Start.
Once time or ammunition has expired, or if the Stop button is pressed, the program will show the Trace After Action Review side panel.
About DART Trace
Trace mode adds real-time shot tracking to DART MAX. This is particularly useful for accessing the capabilities of new students. When a trace weapon (pistol or rifle) is used, the program tracks the movement of a firearm during all phases of a shot: target acquisition, aim, trigger pull, and follow-through.
Once a shot is made, the shooter’s aim point can be replayed in real-time along with various data points, which can be used to analyze shooting performance. Trace data can also be saved in spreadsheet format.
Trace mode requires a specialized laser training weapon that is available as an option to the DART MAX system.
Trace After Action Review Controls
The After Action Review allows you to step through each shot of a trace practice session.
Shots are shown as colored circles that reflect the color of the target zone they hit. The tracing line is also shown in a range of colors, based on the timing of the shot.
The green line marks the path of the aim point prior to one second before the shot is taken. In Trace this is referred to as the acquisition phase.
The yellow line marks the aim point for one full second just before the shot is taken. This is referred to as the aim phase.
The blue line marks the aim point during the trigger squeeze (2/10ths of a second before the shot is registered).
The red line marks the aim point for one full second after the shot is taken. This is known as the follow-through phase.
Shot Selector
Allows the user to scroll through all shots according to the filter and selection settings. the shot slider will affect the data shown below.
Acquisition Speed
The four speed indicators show the relative speed of the aim point for each phase of firing with values ranging from 1 to 100. The higher the number, the faster the movement of the barrel. For example, a value of 2 would indicate a barrel that is very still, while a value of 70 would indicate a rapidly moving barrel.
The green line marks the path of the aim point prior to one second before the shot is taken.
Aim Speed
The yellow line marks the aim point for one full second just before the shot is taken.
Trigger Pull Speed
The blue line marks the aim point during the trigger squeeze (2/10ths of a second before the shot is registered).
Follow Through Speed
The red line marks the aim point for one full second after the shot is taken.
Shot Score
The points the shot earned.
Shot Distance
The distance from the target and the viewpoint expressed in feet, yards, and meters of the selected shot.
Shot Time
The amount of time expressed in seconds and milliseconds that has elapsed from the moment the practice session started to the point that the selected shot was registered.
Replay Trace
Clicking the Replay button will playback the muzzle trace in real-time. This is particularly helpful for picking out movement associated with breathing, recoil anticipation, and other potential problem areas.
