Main Volume

The volume of gunshot sounds and countdown audio from 0% (off) to 100%.

Zone Hit Volume

The volume of zone hit sounds from 0% (off) to 100%. The volume of zone hits is partially controlled by the distance of the target.

Ambient Volume

The volume of the ambient (background) sounds which are added in Stage Settings in MAX Studio. The range is 0% (off) to 100%.

Trace Trigger

When the trigger is pulled on a Trace weapon, the laser turns off for a brief moment measured in milliseconds. When the laser turns off, the program knows that a shot has been fired. The Trace Trigger slider allows you to set the number of milliseconds a laser must be off to be considered a shot.

This should be left at its default setting unless you are using a trace training weapon with specific instructions for changing this setting.

Field of View

Field of View is set to 90 degrees by default. This provides the best combination of viewable area and accurately sized targets if your screen is 13 feet wide. You may need a lower FOV of 60 degrees or less if your screen size is smaller. Keep in mind that smaller FOVs limit the peripheral view. You can experiment with this by changing the Field of View slider and watching its effect on the viewport.

Field of View (FOV) affects what scene cameras (viewpoints) see and is an important part of ensuring that targets and other scene objects are rendered at the correct size. Larger FOV settings create a wider view but targets and objects appear smaller. Smaller FOV settings limit the peripheral view and increase target and object sizes.

It is important to use the same FOV setting in DART MAX (Range) as you do in MAX Studio, so when you load a course in DART MAX, it will automatically use the FOV value set when the course was created. This ensures that courses look the same in both the development and shooting stages.

Camera Threshold

Camera Threshold is used to isolate the laser light of a training weapon. This is similar to the Camera Threshold setting in Setup mode used during calibration. The difference is that this setting affects Practice and Course modes. You should not need to change the default value of 150, however, if you find your system generating phantom shots - such as shots that occur when you do not pull the trigger or multiple shots being fired when you pull the trigger once - you can adjust the Camera Threshold setting.

If the system generates shots when you do not pull the trigger, move the Camera Threshold setting higher.

Move the Camera Threshold setting lower if the system generates two or more shots with each trigger pull. This may happen if you are using a recoil-enabled gun.
